Celebrating Aboriginal Culture (Australia Day) Grant Program
Since 2017, the NT Government has committed to evolving Australia Day to ensure it meaningfully acknowledges, recognises and celebrates Aboriginal culture and Aboriginal people’s contribution to our Northern Territory identity
“Australia Day should be about unity, not division, and for the health and harmony of our nation, Australia Day must evolve.”
Chief Minister, Michael Gunner, Jabiru 26 August 2017.
The Northern Territory is leading the way in supporting a mix of traditional, new and different ways that Aboriginal people and community want to celebrate and commemorate Aboriginal Territorian way and style.
The Celebrating Aboriginal Culture (Australia Day) Grantaims to provide funding to Aboriginal Territorians and in particular remote communities to recognise and support how Aboriginal people want to celebrate and commemorate culture, language, history and achievements.
The grant supports the Northern Territory in how we celebrate Australia Day, aiming to strike a balance between commemorating and respectfully celebrating an Australia Day that is inclusive of Aboriginal Territorians.
